Cardinals make exciting CYO playoffs appearance
The Varsity 1 volleyball team entered the CYO playoffs and were matched up against the host at the St. Fabian district site in the first round. The Cardinals started strong and ran out to a 13-4 lead in the first set and continued on to win 25-13. In the second, St. Fabian jumped out to a 11-4 lead and while the Cardinals went on a run, they dropped the second set 25-13. The third set saw the Cardinals on top early again, 6-1, but match tightened up and St. Fabian cut the Cardinal lead to 1. St. Joe's dug in and went on to win an exciting match by winning the third set 15-13. Next up in the District Championship match, the Cardinals went up against defending City Champion, St. James. The Thunder started out strong in the first set, racing out to a 13-1 lead on although the Cardinals played with lots of heart they lots in two straight sets.
